So I was thinking about that TED talk about “how bacteria communicate”. Go watch it, it’ll blow your mind, but basically each individual bacteria is sending out little chemical “ I’m here” signals while also picking up those signals not only from others like it, but also from bacteria of different types. So there’s this massive inter-species communication happening in, on, and around us. And given that it’s actually really difficult to delineate between “you” and your bacteria, it doesn’t seem like a huge stretch to think there could be humans who are slightly more tuned in to what is being said. And if you and I are in close enough proximity, you can bet our bacteria are exchanging a ton of information.
